CURED MEATS IN THE DIET
Correct nutrition also means meals that are differently distributed and composed, in line with a healthy lifestyle that includes moderate but regular physical activity. Those who only have time for a quick small meal at lunchtime should make sure that they start the day with a good breakfast that also includes bread and ham - or bresaola - which are lean and digestible, freshly squeezed orange juice and, naturally, a good cup of coffee. This kind of breakfast guarantees efficiency for a good few hours. Alternatively, this meal can be shifted to mid-morning. Children and adolescents can make free and abundant use of cured meats. Those who practice sports - swimming or jogging - in the early afternoon are well aware that a full or over-abundant meal compromises their performance. A good "main course" eaten in advance, at breakfast or mid-morning, followed by a light meal (a small plate of pasta followed by fruit) can be a valid solution for a healthy and rational nutrition prior to sport. Today, on account of increasingly reduced physical activity, we have less need of calories. In some cases, when the need for energy is low, we run the risk of not consuming sufficient nutrients, especially vitamins and minerals.
And so we need to increase physical activity so as to have a more correct contribution of all the requisite nutrients. It's not necessary to resort to complicated physical exercises or sport. Motor activity is all that's required, that is activities which utilise the muscles instead of the lift, the car and all the remote controls and electrical devices we're surrounded by, including the electric grater! Such activities are possible for everyone, including children and old people. In this way we can consume more energy and eat a richer diet, so as to provide the organism with all the necessary nutrients. Those who have problems with their figure, and older people, can opt for lean ham, raw or cooked. This is a foodstuff high in nutrients and low in calories that can safely be eaten even by those suffering from high blood pressure because it contains much less sodium than in the past. A portion of cured meats is highly versatile: it can be an excellent alternative to meat when we don't have the time, the opportunity or the desire to prepare it, or a tasty main course, accompanied by salad or cooked vegetables. In short, cured meats are a perfect food for all ages and for all nutritional requirements. Beyond this, in terms of flavour and the art with which they're produced, they are a benchmark of our gastronomic traditions, albeit continually adapting to the demands of a modern nutritional lifestyle.
